I Shall Sell My Soul For A Holiday In The Sun!
I will never understand the British obsession with holidays in the sun. Maybe its because I live in Florida and I know that while the sun is pleasant and warm, it does not improve ones life in wondrous ways that make you strip down in an instant at the sheer presence of it. Instead it makes you sweat, and in August, without AC in your car you can feel your back stick to the seat because of it. It also give you skin cancer, kills millions of skin cells in your body with each burn and also infects pain. But British people don't see that, they see the novelty of it. The adverts are a direct example of this. Here's the picture, a couple is sitting at their kitchen table drinking tea or coffee or gin or whatever, with their heads in their hands because they are totally skint. They need a loan, not to put towards their mortgage or even redo their kitchen...but for A HOLIDAY IN THE SUN! By god, they might be living in a cardboard box in front of the tube station by the end of the year, but they will go to Spain and enjoy 2 weeks to direct sunlight which will scorch their pale reflective white skin to a vibrant shade of Burgundy. I know Great Britain isn't exactly the sunniest place, and for the majority of the year its cold, overcast and rainy. But listen people: THE SUN IS NOT A GOD TO BE WORSHIPPED BEYOND ALL OTHER THINGS. You DO NOT have to sell your soul, or first born child to bask in its glory for 14 days, just to return looking like a tomato and then immediately start desperately discussing plans for next years dose of skin cancer. Also, realize that while you get less holiday time than the rest of Europe, you get more than an American would ever dream of. So stop bloody complaining about your job and its lack of holiday time. YOU DO NOT NEED 2 HOLIDAYS TO SPAIN A YEAR, and think before you take out that extra loan to fund such travels, maybe you could IMPROVE YOUR LIFE IN A LONG TERM MANNER by...say...investing in a tanning bed that will burn you for free...or perhaps something more meaningful...just a thought!
